Well that is a definite plus that it's a 5-speed. The old Saab 3 speed automatics are prone to failure, usually at a little over 100,000 miles. Take the car for a test drive on the highway, accelerate in 4th and 5th gear, and listen for a distinctive whine from the engine compartment that ceases when you let off the gas. If you hear that noise, that means the pinion bearing is heading south in your transmission, and a rebuild or new tranny can be expected in the future. If the tranny is quiet, however, and shifts smooth, it shouldn't be a problem. Other than that, there are other little quirks to look for; sagging headliner, cracked dashboard, uneven or rough idle (usually a vaccuum leak), temperature gauge running hot in traffic or at an idle (means you need either a new radiator, thermostat, coolant drain/flush, thermoSWITCH.. all of those are fairly easy do-it-yourself tasks).. Other than that, check over the receipts of what has been fixed on the car, perhaps get a carfax VIN number check on it, see what it's accident history is.. If you do get it, before you even buy a full tank of gas for it, go and buy a Bentley manual. It is the bible for repairing these cars, with step by step fixes from minor things such as light bulb changes, all the way down to engine and tranny tear-downs. I think a couple sponsors on here sell them, 40, maybe 45 bucks, something like that. If you do get it, let us know, and welcome aboard! Between this board and the bentley manual, i've taught myself how to fix many things myself on my 88 900S, so use this place to your advantage, as you already are by asking questions before the sale..
Good luck!
Jake
