i typically pressurize the reservoir to bleed the clutch and have not tried a vac method. if i were to apply a vacuum at the slave bleed i would think that the reservoir cap should NOT be on. car does not have to be on to vac or pressure bleed. no need to pump the pedal.
of those endowed with the mighty Mity vac i think Monster has explained his trials most thoroughly. check his "more from Monster" button or post directly to him. as far as i know you can use your handy tool to test all vac lines and componentry, ie hooter valve, elcd canister, vac reservoir canister...
