I'm assuming you are talking about the front brake calipers. don't bolt the caliper/carrier on yet, or take it off If you have done so, so the rotor isn't in the way. slide the outer side of the caliper out, causing the piston in the center to also start extending outward. then using the tool or a pair of needlenose pliers, turn the piston clockwise until it is level with the "case" that it is in. You should have enough clearance then.
