What you witnessed was the intense meditation used by the pilots of aged Saabs (and other elder makes) to achieve a inner peace and the will to continue down the highway despite the many (expensive or irreplaceable) pieces falling off along the way. This, compounded by a nagging feeling that the fuel pump is on its way out, and an expired set of out-of-state-plates adds to the teeth-clenched style of driving adopted by the members of the welfare classics scene. Those who can affors the fully restored beauties on Barrett-Jackson will never savor the true glory of arriving at your destination in a stylish classic held together with bailing wire and snot. So don't frown upon them for ignoring your enthusiasm - just smile, and hope they don't break in front of you...
