I have an 86 900 Turbo, automatic. The trouble I am having involves shifting. It sounds like first gear is working perfectly, but when the car goes to shift to a higher gear, it doesn't want to. The RPM's are high, and the car does not want to exceed 35 MPH. I have found that the car will shift into a higher gear if the Turbo needle leaves the white zone. When it does shift there is a grinding noise right before it goes up, and going up a hill greatly speeds up this process. This problem occured all of a sudden, no building up to it. I took it to a mechanic for an esitmate, but he wanted to charge 300 just for looking. If I need a new trasmission I would like to just replace it rather than tacking on an extra cost. Thanks for any help you can give.
