it was not a Saab OE coolant. MB seems to have a good formula which resists corrosion especially with the AL/FE combination. Tom Townsend swears by it as do a number of other sources. Head gasket problems result from overheating and also from head metal erosion due to this chemical reaction. Still, change it every 2 years. As for cost, the 150kmi coolant (pink stuff) at your local autozone is 6.00, the MB coolant is 12 and is a proven entity.
The problem with analyses like these is that it takes a long time to evaluate the effectiveness of an 'improved' part or fluid. If it is a strength issue such as a lower control arm, we can all see that an improved part is better because it is bigger where the weaker one has previously failed. Lubricants and coolants take years to develop a history. I go with the history that Tom has recorded.
