Saab used the 2.8 in the 185 hp 'red box'. More is not needed unless you exceed this. As the LH has a closed loop o2 sensor, it will try to maintain stoichiometry. If it has too much fuel pressure, it will fail and run a bit rich. I am not saying that 3.0 is too much, just that it MAY be. I use the 2.8 and have the 185HP box and do not run lean as verified by the o2 sensor reading at WOT. In other words, it seems to work fine. It was good enough for Saab in their performance package, it should be good for you unless you exceed the performance of their package. i.e. bigger turbo scroll, bigger ehxaust, cams, etc, and the fpr would be the least of your problems. In a reasonably stock Saab c900, with the LH FI, 2.8 should be fine.
