Same problem on 90 900t. Bad Cat is a likely problem, if the rest of the injection system is OK. High nox is also a result of a slightly lean mixture. A number of things can cause the problem: One or more bad injectors, O2 sensor bad, Air Mass Meter bad, vacuum leaks. A trick to get a car with a bad cat through the nox test is to purposely retard the spark from 16btdc to 12 or 13 btdc. Check for vacuum leaks at all hose and intake plumbing sections including the intake manifold gasket with a propane torch(unlit!!!)...idle will increase when vacuum leak pulls in propane. With engine running connect a digital voltmeter between O2 sensor signal wire and ground, and if voltage is more on the low side of .5 volts as it swings back and forth, the mixture is lean. If there is no swing back and forth around .5 volts O2 sensor is bad. Try some injector cleaner before you go through an injector test. Bad AMM symptoms are cold start idle swings and flat spots and surges under power.
