I did a stupid thing...

I used a sponge with a bit of a rough side to remove all the things that were sticking to the paint on my '92 900. Now, I can see the scratches in the paint, almost all over the car, when I look at it in the sunlight.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to buff these out? I would assume that I need some sort of stripping compound, but I've never done this before.
Thanks in advance.
