Hello- Lately, I have heard different theories as to what I should do about changing my manual tranny lubricant. I have a 1986 900S 16V. I changed from conventional motor oil about 9 months ago to Redline MTL. Changing the tranny lube with about 115,000 miles on it really got rid of those notchy shifts, during warm day or cold day first starts. But now, as I start talking to the Saab mechanic who I am taking my car into next week for some belt and CV work, he tells me that Redline is JUNK. I went to a local Amsoil dealer this morning, and he also told me that Redline is JUNK, and is inferior to Amsoil (maybe cause he's a dealer?), because test for test, Redline is once again, JUNK. I currently use Amsoil in my engine, and I am happy with it, but would a switch to Amsoil in the tranny be a good idea? Should I switch to the two Amsoil products that I have been hearing work well- Amsoil Series 2000 20W50 Motor Oil, or should I stick with a gear lubricant like Amsoil 75W90 gear lube? Would a switch from the original motor oil, then to Redline, and then possibly back to 20W50 motor oil or 75W90 gear lube be potentially damaging to a tranny now with 126K and in good working condition? What are your thoughts? I have heard very good things about Amsoil, but should i stick to a gear lube or try some 20W50, or Series 2000 20W50? Also, I have NGK plugs in my car now, and I was wondering if a switch to Bosch Platinum plugs or Platinum+Four's would be a good or bad idea, or should I stick with good ol' NGK's? Any experience with these oils or plugs would be appreciated.
