Can you ruin a starter from jumping the car??

I placed an add the other day, about replacing a bad alternator, charging light was illuminated on the dash, replaced battery, and alternator, but know the car will not start at all.....tried to jump it but nothing, recharged the battery and it is throwing 12.5 volts. When I turn the key to run\start position, the starter will not even crank, but I hear a faint vibration coming from the starter housing.....should I now replace the starter........this is driving me crazy, first time this has happened to me on a Saab.
I thank you in advance for any information......
