brand new timing chain and head gasket. so, one less clatter allows me to hear another. BTW, i think the sound preceeded this work - but i don't think i scrutinized it before since it wasn't prevalent. i wondered if the valvoline (w/ some additive) that they used was the cause, but recently put mobil 1 in again.
I keep thinking if w/ a new chain the timing would be slightly off now or if they messed something up w/ the gasket job. its a very good shop, and they sent the head out to be checked - all surfaces were true and not pitted and guides ok, etc.
someone once mentioned getting a 2.1 gasket for a 2.0 engine by accident. cylinders were slightly smaller and made alot of clatter. but, again, good shop and the sound goes away when warm...so i doubt this scenario.
