Man, miss a day on this board and you're last post ends up halfway down page 2. To answer your questions:

Look for any master cylinder cap from a FIAT, Bimmer, or Benz if you can't find a SAAB in the junkyard. The cap size is 45mm on a SAAB and all those should fit as well as some Japanese cars.

Taking off the clutch cover is not such a big hassle. You just have to move stuff out of the way. Leaking fluid doesn't "spray." It pools underneath the clutch asembly. If you see fluid, change the slave cylinder while it still works a little. Otherwise it's a huge PITA. Assess your clutch condition while it's out. Reinstall it only if it's relatively new.

Regarding the bleed screw: Find a Snap-On or Mac Tool truck and buy a "flare nut crowfoot" wrench in the proper hex size. A crowfoot fits onto a socket extension and will provide the clearance necessary to work the bleed screw. The flare nut crowfoot is specifically for flare fittings of course. If you take the cover off, you may be able to use a regular combination wrench.

Regarding my trip: Yes, I went up the coast. No I didn't take the SAAB. I have to replace the master cylinder. There's one on my desk I bought off Tom Townsend. Unfortunately, it hasn't migrated to the car. Besides, I still have the warm restart problem, though not as acutely, and the "pup tent" headliner which irritates the living hell out of anybody sitting in the back. I will not hesitate to use it for long trips when I'm done. Both my cross-country drives were in SAABs.

Sorry about losing your workspace. Can't help you there. I fix my car in the street.

Good Luck.

JD
