One, these cars are still brick sh!t houses, so I don't ask for much. So, keeping it in perspective (this *IS* a car hatched in '78) I'd do the following simple things:
>>In fantasy land, the headliner. But I accept it's inherent in this kind of shell design. Ah well.
>>Longer trans bearing life (trans was merely ok for the early saabs, but not tough enough to keep using it as the engines evolved/stronger. For a rally-born car, this was a weak point - though it is a bit trite to bi%$# about a 100k tranny I admit). Hell, I'll even tolerate the clunky shifter, just make sure it lasts.
>>Improve the fender trim design to thwart rust (the bane of saabs everywhere)
>>Opt. for elec powered r. side windows for 3dr's.
>>Would it be so hard to paint cat shields so they would last forever? No. Of course, that crappy wiring from '85-'85 would be gone, too.
>>Door mounted cupholders (like those on my site)
>>Antennae mast polished finished, not the matte black that cruds up and jams.
>>More crack resistant dash material
>>Undercote standard, oil interior of panels, seal/rustproof the front bumper mounts.
Finished - realistic tweaks for better saabing.
