Turbonetics Gimmicks or not?

I shoped around for a rebuilt turbo charger for my 87T and gotten a quote for $ 250 from turbonetics.So i shipped the unit and a week after they received it i called to see when it would be done:
They said that my core was cracked and my shaft was shoot, so it is going to cost $ 769 to rebuilt.
That turbo was still working except for a little bit of blue smoke, do you think that these guys are honest because i seriously doubt it.
I inspected the unit before i shipped it and i didn't see any cracks and the turbine was spinning freely.
So i told them to ship it back to me, i ended up buying a used one from Saab Sevices in Lake Worth Florida.

Has anyone ever had a turbo rebuilt at Turbonetics, are these guys honest or Rip offs?
