WHAT I AM CONSIDERING: Swapping a '78 99GL 4-speed tranny into my '91 900S Automatic
WHAT I NEED TO KNOW: Gear ratios. I would like to know how this four gear is going to compare on the highway in big wheel to my automatic. I found a Haynes manual for the 99 and it has all the gear ratios but the bentley doesn't seem to have any of this sort of detail on the auto currently in my car. I see there are basically two different sets of gears in the 99 that where available depending on the chassis #. I don't know what the donor chassis # is and it is about a hour drive away. Does anyone know what a 1978 99GL would have in it off hand? Does anyone out there have any facts on how these two tranny's will compare as far as RPM's on the highway? What about out of the hole? I can't imagine a slower tranny than the automatic that is in there now.
