Grinding screeching arrrgh!!!!

Several weeks ago I had a very noticable intermittant scraping and grinding noise in the vicinity of the harmonic balancer[narrowed down by removing one belt after another] with the addition of a slight cam chain noise. To make a very long story short[After much head sratching I was fairly sure a screw had backed out behind the balancer and was grinding as it backed out until finally, grinding itself off or falling out. WRONG!!!]The Hall sensor had broken in half and was grinding on the steel sensor ring attached to the harmonic balancer finally grinding enough material away to no longer make contact. Very strange . Aside from the noise the car continued to run perfect....
A new harmonic balancer,oil pump o ring,front seal and Hall sensor installed and I am lovin the SAAB [1992 900 133K] AGAIN!!!! Thanks to all the advice on the SAAB net!!! JK
