The way to remove the wiring is conceptually easy, but tends to be annoying in my experience. Follow the wiring from the door into the engine compartment. Behind the fuse box, there are some black or grey plastic connectors which house 2, 3, or 4 bullet-style electrical connections. When closely examined, the plastic housings turn out to be snapped together, and can be un-snapped. Once undone, the wires can be pulled through the sheet metal holes one at a time.
The annoying part is keeping track of the wiring sequence and trying to fit the bullet connectors back into the plastic housings in the correct order. There isn't much space in there, so if you have big hands you might want to find someone to help you.
Good luck!
