Mine was leaking like no tomorrow from this location up until a week ago. I had done my first oil change with the car a few months back, and not replaced the washer. I changed the oil again last weekend, and used several helpful pieces of advice from people on this BB. Not a drop has leaked since. Here are my observations on the matter.

1) Be aware of how tight you screw in the plug. I was worried sick that I had overtightened the plug during my first change and cracked the aluminum tranny case! Next time you take the plug out, clean off the area around it and examine for any cracks. Don't torque the plug too tight. It shouldn't need to be that tight to keep from falling out. Check Bentley manual for torque spec. I don't have it in front of me. I don't have a torque wrench at the moment, so I tightened mine until I meet resistance, then I stopped. Maybe it's a good idea to only use a wrench instead of a ratchet when tightening. Harder to overtorque that way. I figured, too loose better than too tight. If too loose, it will leak. That might have been my problem in the first place, ironically enough, as when I loosened the plug, it was really easy!

2) Replace the washer. They cost a couple bucks apiece... I bought several from the dealer, because I wanted to change oil that day. Order a few from a site sponsor next time you buy parts. My old washer looked pretty worn and it coulda been leaking through there.

3) JD from LA gave me some great advice on applying this stuff called Hylomar to the threads of the plug. I picked it up for a couple bucks at AutoZone...made by the same people who make Locktite. It's a gooey gasket sealer type stuff, which supposedly won't harden over time. I put it on the threads of the plug, especially up toward the head, before screwing it back in.

4) Different types of oil will act differently. Everybody on this BB has an opinion on what to use. I haven't made up my mind yet. But I do know that I have more leaks since I drained out the dino and put in sythetic. And more with Mobil 1 10/30 than Castrol Syntec 10/40.

Good luck, and I hope for once, that I've been helpful!
