Tonight (hopefully) will be the test drive after the following work:
Rebuilt tranny, brand new clutch, clutch slave, throwout
bearing, clutch hydraulic line, valve cover and gasket, and oilers; timing chain tensioner, harmonic balancer, front and rear main seals, shift shaft seal, distributor, belts, coolant hoses, ball joints, tie rod ends, urethane suspension bushings, skid plate, carpets and padding, trunk lining, door sills, door interior trim and dashboard.
Last night the car was started up for the first time in 2 weeks, and proceeded to piss power steering fluid all over the floor. Tonight- swap in some new lines and try again.
I also scrubbed quite a bit of grime out of the engine bay while everything was out- amazingly good 15-year-old paint was uncovered, except for where it looks like a battery exploded and left acid burns splattered on the inner fender.
Next: full alignment, new summer tires, A/C, and later: a little body work, replace rear window (defroster grids should never be cleaned with acetone), and redo headliner.
