Red, 5 speed, ~120000 miles.
Has a salvage title and was rebuilt early in it's life. We do business with the seller (computers, not cars) and it has been a solid car the entire time she's known it. That seems to indicate the work was done well (by her ex-husbands shop, I guess). Let's assume it checks out with just normal wear and tear and that the rebuild indeed looks good so the title is the only real problem here.
The seller is motivated (moving out of town soon) but hasn't started trying to sell it.
Edmunds says (avg condition):
Trade-in: 2785
Private Seller: 3239
Retail: 4004
KBB says:
Trade-In (good/fair): 4190/3380
Retail: 8325
Keep in mind, all of these assume a clean title. Assuming the car is in good shape (as checked by a Andrews of Princeton), what would it take to consider this car?
3500?
3000?
2500?
Lower?
I'm spending enough getting my 85 in order right now. I'm also working on eliminating all my debt by the end of this year. Spending $3000 is not really a big deal but I can only afford to take on a deal that I "can't afford to pass up!". Where does this become such a deal?
Finally, I'd perfer a turbo 5-speed and know that retrofitting a turbo onto this car is probably not a good idea. In light of that, would I really be bothered too much??? My 85 900S doesn't bother me but I don't expect much from it (pretty much just motion). I've got my 00 9-5 Aero to fulfill the need for speed on a frequent basis. My 85 900 is mostly for commuting and winter driving, the 9-5 picks up about 70% of my driving right now. This would be strictly a summer car and get only a few thousand miles/year.
Thanks!
Bryce
