Bought a 90 SAAB 900 for my daughter. Nice car, 90m miles, clean as a whistle. I drove it on a 200 mile jaunt before I bought it from my local indie SAAB mechanic. He had owned and driven this car for five years without any problem. He services my other two 900's and is factory certified. I trust him.

Daughter drove it 10 miles, engine just stopped, wouldn't restart. We thought battery or alternator. Took battery to auto store. It tested bad. Bought new battery. Everythings fine. Daughter drives car 30 miles, engine dies. Won't restart. Brought it back. Checked both ground points off battery. No corrosion in cables or posts. I drive the car to local fast food emporium. It refuses to restart. On fifth try, it starts. Daughter leaves with car. 50 miles out of town engine dies. Tow truck! Alternator is putting out exactly what it is supposed to. Indie mechanic and I are mystified. After having car towed in, it starts right up. Car has been running for about 20 minutes. Mechanic and I are standing alongside checking relays, fuses, etc. Engine dies and check engine light comes on, but only because ignition key is still on. No codes from the computer. What could it be? Fuel pump! Install new fuel pump. Mechanic runs car for three hours. No problem. Mechanic's wife starts out on trip to my house, five miles away. Doesn't make it. Engine dies. ARRGH! During this same time frame experienced two problems unrelated to the above. Top radiator hose burst dumping all the antifreeze. A/C compressor, already converted to R134a packed it in and was replaced by my mechanic under warranty. Do I have to call a priest and request an exorcism? What the **** is going on with this car. Your thoughts will be appreciated.
