The clicking noises probably mean that one or both of your outer CV joints have cracked boots and have leaked out all of their lubricant. They click when they're dry. It's a common occurrence.
If you do your own work, it's relatively easy to replace them with rebuilts or to put new CV joints on.
Do a search for CV Joint on the "Search the Classic 900 bulletin board" dialog box above. There has been a lot of discussion about them. More than I can quote here.
