Considering the advances in oil technologies over the past few years, I agree there's no need to put Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) in the crankcase. Regular changes with synthetic oil will exceed the manufacturer's requirements for engine protection. However, I do use 4 ounces of it (one of those small bathroom paper cups) each time I fill the gas tank. Been doing it since the car was new.

I don't think it hurts anything, and it may help keep the fuel pump and injectors healthy. My '87 900T is still running with its original fuel pump. The O2 sensor went bad at around 155,000 miles and 13 years -- so I don't think MMO killed it. I replaced the injectors when I did a bunch of SPG9 upgrades last year, and the old ones were working fine when I took them out. While Florida had emissions testing, the Beastie passed each year with flying colors, and my catalytic converter is fine.

Who knows if MMO factored into the longevity of these components? Maybe it helped, or maybe everything would have lasted that long anyway. My compression is as good as when the car was new -- is that because of the top cylinder lubrication effects of MMO? Or just because Saab engines last a long time anyway?

I won't make any outlandish claims for MMO or recommend people start using it, but I will state that, in my own experience, it does no harm to the fuel system, injectors, engine, turbocharger, or exhaust. I will continue using it as long as I have this car. To me, it's a relatively cheap additive which might do some good... sort of like taking vitamins with breakfast.
