I recently upgraded my '85 900T to Intrax sport lowering springs (and replaced my dead 16-year-old OEM Boge-Sachs shocks with KYB Gas-A-Justs). Now that my car's about an inch and a half lower, I have been reading that I should have had my alignment re-done.
Is this only the front-end alignment? I thought I read in my Bentley's that only the front wheels can be adjusted. If the rear was lowered as well as the front, wouldn't they both need to be re-adjusted?
Also, if I go to a standard tire shop, how will they know how to adjust the toe-in, caster, and camber of a car with springs which are not standard? I have found the numbers that Bentley's gives for either a standard or SPG model, but that wouldn't account for a car with aftermarket (Intrax) springs. Should I use the SPG numbers since those have shorter springs (although they're not nearly as short as the Intrax)? According to the Bentley guide, the only difference in alignment numbers between the SPG and standard chassis are the camber and toe-in numbers. The caster appears the same. After looking at the guide, the distance between the top of rim and the seam where the front fender and hood meet is 243mm for the standard chassis and 230mm for the SPG (with 15" rims). I measured 205mm on my car w/ Intrax springs!!! What camber, caster, and toe-in numbers do you experts suggest for my car with Intrax springs? I'll probably have to give these numbers to the tire shop before they do the work.
Lastly, I am running Pirelli P4000 195/60R15 tires on the front wheels and Pirelli P6 195/60R15 tires on the rear (I have the standard 15" x 5.5" alloy 16-spoke rims). I read at Townsend's site that he suggests Michelin X1 195/65-15 tires because they give a smoother ride. I don't think that Michelin makes the X1 anymore, but I could get say a set of Pirelli P4000 or P6000. If I have the Intrax springs on there, would the 65 rather than the 60 rub or have any other potential problems?
If you've read this far, thanks!
