There is a capillary tube in/near the evaporator that AFAIK affects the on/off cycling of the compressor. I had an issue once where the tube had fallen off its mounts/clips and the compressor kept compressing. Funny thing was the extra cooling FROZE the evaporator solid, like a brick of ice! I only noticed it during trips back from Dewey Beach DE when the stupid AC wouldn't right about at the Bridge....when I would shut off the AC for about 20 minutes it would thaw and work fine until I got home. I suspect if the ride home had been further or less warm/humid (I think I was maxing out the a/c between the bridge and home and less heavily loading it prior to the bridge) the evaporator would have frozen up again.

Sooo, to make a long story short, it may not have anything to do with the capillary tube as long as your compressor is cycling on/off and preventing evaporator freeze up. Unless your core IS actually freezing up and you can identify this by looking at it through the air intake under the hood...it's pretty obvious if it's a block of ice.

Otherwise, I'd agree with the other post (only one last I looked), check for low refrigerant/pressures. I generally look for around 20-30psi on the low side and below 250 on the high side.
