The low side is the line which comes from the evaporator, the unit built into the cabin firewall. The Hi side is the line from compressor to the condensor (near radiator). Once the refridgerant is thru the condensor, it is "condensed" to liquid. This then enters the filter dryer to make sure only liquid goes to the evaporator. You will see the small diameter liquid line which feeds from dryer to the evaporator. This line is small because it is high pressure and carrying liquid, not gas. You always charge your system on the suction side of the compressor, i.e. the low side.
Make sure you are adding the correct type of Freon! Has your car been converted to R134A, or is it still R12 (original type)?
