The "correct" way is to use an impact wrench on the center bolt. The four allen screws really don't need to come out, but if you insist, you can reach the back end of the threads to hit with Liquid Wrench after the pulley assembly is off.
Also, Liquid Wrench, Knock'er Loose, Zep 45, and Rost Off (Wurth) are better at rust-busting than WD40, IMHO. A VW dealership may have Rost Off or Zep ('cuz they're German, and they can convince those Duetsche parts to let go of each other better than any A-merican oil...)
