the chain is probably fine, its the guides that are worn out. have you replaced the tensioner with a post '88 style? if you have the valve cover off, look down the chain cavity and see if one of the guides has come loose, and the chain is running off to the side. unless you like standing on your head for long periods of time, and working in very confined spaces, this is a motor out of car job, so big $$$
