I took in my '91 convertible in to get tinted windows. Here in KY, it is legal to have 35% tint on the front windows, and the rear windows can go down to 20%. I, of course, had to be difficult and wanted the darkest possible. So I found a little rice-burner-type shop who was willing to put on 5% tint all around the car (20% in the rear window) for $100 cash. Obviously, it is illegal but the guy wanted the business badly enough. I scheduled the tinting for the day before I left for a week's vacation since I wouldn't be able to roll the windows down for a few days after the tint work. The windows didn't seem like they were 5% when I went to pick it up (my girlfriend has 5% on hers so I had something to compare with) but I thought that maybe once the tint was completely dry it would look darker.

I returned from vacation a week later and realized it wasn't going to get any darker. There's no way in the world it's 5%--looks more like 20% all around. That's dilemma #1....

The biggest issue, however, is more serious and expensive. Last night it cooled off and I had a lot of moisture on my windows. I couldn't even see out of the back so I turned on my rear defroster..... nothing. I suspect that whoever did my tint job may have sliced some rear defroster wiring back there. (If you guys have any trouble shooting tips on this I'd appreciate it.... but the defroster was working fine before the tint job and that leads me to believe they're somehow responsible).

What do you guys think I should do? How do I go about getting some sort of resolution? Keep in mind that it's a rice-burner shop and that the window tint they did is illegal in the first place. I payed cash so that in case I get in trouble for the tint (a risk I'm willing to take) it can't be traced back to the shop. I did get a computerized receipt for "Window Tint" that shows I paid $100.

HELP!!!!! What would you do if this happened to you????? BTW, I've learned my lesson with these types of shops--I should never have left my car with them.....
