The A/C on my '92 900S stopped working over the winter too. Try jumpering the two leads at the receiver-drier (just to the right of the battery). If the compressor kicks on briefly-you've lost your Freon charge- (mine was the old R12). I took my wheels to a local auto shop (one not out to rip me off) and they injected some yellow dye marker into the low-pressure side-bottom fitting of the two nipples coming off the compressor. Since the compressor needed a charge (of either R12 ($75 a lb) or R34, I opted for the latter, since I figured I would be making the R34 conversion anyway. I had one can of R34 from last summer’s R34 conversion of my '86 900T, so I put that can into the system, the compressor kicked on immediately and I'm getting cool air. Now I need to find the leak (then have shop evacuate system), make the necessary repairs myself; (new rec-drier, expansion valve and new a/c hoses) then have the shop pull a vacuum to make sure no leaks and then (either let shop or myself) re-charge the system with R34. Or, if I don't spot a leak, I may just put another can of R34 in-see if it cools further and see if I can keep the charge going for the summer if it's a slow leak.

Using this approach, I replaced the entire A/C system (with the exception of the compressor) on my ’86 last summer, converted to R34 and it really blows cold. I think I spent about $300 bucks by doing the work and ordering the parts myself. One shop quoted me $1400 to the same repairs-forgettabout it!

It's really a fairly easy DIY undertaking. Just let the shop handle the evacuating and pressure testing chores as they have the proper gauges and recovery equipment.
