How do your plugs look? Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: distributor woes, ade, Mon, 21 May 2001 05:12:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
JohnB makes some very good points. But are you sure it's an ignition problem? Since the problem occurs at small throttle openings, I'm wondering if it's a fuel issue, not ignition. Except for the vacuum retard, the distributor doesn't know from engine load, and I'd expect a distributor problem to get worse with load and higher RPM.
Are the spark plugs white, indicating too lean a mixture? Look around for a vacuum leak. A vacuum leak will be the worst at low throttle, because you've got the biggest input vacuum to suck air in, and the smallest amount of air going through the system, so even a little unmetered air will cause big problems. Look for split hoses or pinholes, especially near fittings. Of course, look for a hose that simply fell off. Make sure the hoses from the intake plenum to the intake manifold (four short, fat hoses) are OK, and the clamps tight.
If the engine is running too lean, you'll get misfiring.
