Are you talking about the nut that attaches the tie rod end to the steering knuckle?
If that's the one, gently jack the tie rod end up with your floor jack until there's just enough friction between the tie rod shaft and the arm of the steering knucle so that the shaft doesn't spin when you turn the nut. But don't jack it up so much that you put enough force on the steering knuckle arm to bend it.
For your CV joints, the cheap way out is to get a remanufactured drive axle. Getting used CV joints is chancy at best and they often have the same problems as the one you're replacing.
If you're in a bind (and you're in a big enough city/town), you can get them from places like NAPA or Foreign Autoparts - sometimes they have them in stock. If you have enough time, order one from one of the sponsors like Sobstory.
