I had a similar sensation: driving in a straight line, the back end would voluntarily move to one side just enough to unsettle me. Then a steering correction would make the whole back end feel like it swung over the other way.
I just changed the tires from Hakkapalitas (yes, I know it's summer) to Yoko AVS's. I checked the rear end bushings while it was in the air, and everything looked ok. I think the stiffer tires made a difference.
In your case, it may be that the loose front end masked the swaying feeling, and that your new precise steering is making the sway obvious.
