they "feel" much nicer. Jim M. actually convinced me to try them. I put new rotors on last summer and metallic pads. After a few months I started experiencing pedal pulsation again and assumed that a dragging parking brake had warped a rotor again. One sides pads were quite worn after 18K supporting the e-brake theory. When I put the PBRs on (and serviced a somewhat reluctant e-brake mechanism), I noticed that the rotor on one side had some small pits in the running surface. They were probably flaws in the casting (bubbles) that when exposed became pits. They were filled with residue from the metallic pads and were grabbing on each rev resulting in the pulsing. I cleaned them up, installed the new pads and was delighted to find no pulsing at all with the PBRs.
I actually only made all the conclusions after discovering the pulsing was gone and thinking back on a previous experience with brand new rotors that sat on a car over the winter and developed corrosion pits under the pads. They grabbed like hell due to friction material building up in them. So my experience is sort've skewed because the problem I experienced with the metallic pads wasn't really due to the pads themselves but rather to a rotor defect. But the PBRs really do have a nice smooth feel to them, pitted rotors or not and they are remarkably free of dust. I convinced a friend to try them to and he loves them.
Brake pads are a short-term consumable, not a long a long-term investment. I figured I'd just try a set and if I wasn't happy with them, in a year I'd have something else.
