Modified B engine in my old rally car used to pull fine to 7500 rpm. Stock 16V turbo in my present rally car is fine all the way until it cuts off at 6200 rpm but it is making more noise than power above 5500 rpm. However, in general, an engine will live longer if you don't rev it as high. To paraphrase the humorist, Dave Barry, an engine only has so many revs in it and then it is done.
