<<So I immediately installed the spare distributor I had waiting in the passenger floorboard and it started fine. The infamous repair continuum hit me but was nice to let me coast into my driveway! Hopefully, this distributor will fix it for good. >>
I too am all about spare everything in the trunk/garage, including a distributor body. A spare fuel pump relay kept me moving some time back. So what went wrong with that distributor of yours??? One of the little connecting wires sheared? Perhaps inside the unit? I've dismantled and overhauled an 8v distributor, and can think of but a few places where the wires are vulnerable. 50 yards from the house - perfect!
Interestingly enough, the time I had to replace a fuel pump relay I was heading to a large pick yer part scrap yard. Just down the road from there I spotted a parked pickup truck with the Junkyard Wars tv show logo painted on it's side. I love that show and had to stop and chat. I waited for a good bit but he/she never made it out. I got impatient, put my card with "luv the show" written on the back, then left. Only my car wouldn't start! Perfect timing!
