If you can only get it to blow hot air, my one guess is maybe the
link from the hot/cold controller is disconnected. It is a long
rod with a u-joint at one end, that goes from the knob back to a
connection near the firewall. If you take out your radio, and
your driver-side speaker, you can see this. If it got disconnected,
than of course turning the knob on the dash will do nothing. Does
it seem like there is resistance?
I'm surprised that the air would be so hot that it would take out
the cd-player, but you also might want to check how the air air
is being transferred. There are plastic vents that go up to blow
air to the defroster. Those are located at the speakers. The
front vent shouldn't be a problem, because it goes straight through
to the front vents, and is pretty much build solid into the base
under the dash.
Anyway, hope this helps, or more expert opinion comes along!
good luck,
Ryan
