Try Brandywine in MD. They've got a fairly decent selection. They'll take it off for you for an extra charge or let you out back to do it yourself.

They typically know what the value is - you're not going to get a new headlight for $20 - it'll be like $125 - still half price. If it's an esoteric looking/sounding piece, you can usually get it for cheap. APC boxes and such.

It's very important to come off as extremely knowledgable, confidant, and down to earth. These scrap yard guys like American V8's and when you say "Saab", they look at you and see a rich fruit-cake ready to be taken. So walk in with you tools, your dirty cover-alls, and say to the man that you need an "APC box for an '85 Saab". He'll look at you funny and ask if "you know whatcher lookin' fer" and then tell you where the cars are.

Anytime I'm out there, I look for stuff I can snag - usually small stuff like nylon fasteners and crap like that. Make a list of everything you want and need and take it with you.

My friend and I have gotten all kinds of stuff for virtually nothing from Brandywine. It also helps to make friends with them (kind of hard sometimes) but we noticed one guy had a DC United shirt on and started talking to him about the games. We got half the rear suspension for an RX-7 for about $125 and have gotten free stuff ever since.

I've also been phone quoted a side-view mirror for $50. I got there, took it off, brought it in, and the price had shot up to $75. I argued for a minute and knew the fat old bastard wasn't going to give in - "I sell these things for $125 all day long" - so I told him to go to hell and keep it.
