Car won't start, help me please! (84 900 turbo)

Okay, I was driving down the road, everything working as it should, when suddenly, my car sputtered briefly, then conked out all together. I pulled into a parking lot and tried to start it, and it cranked and started for no more than a few seconds at a time. Each time I turn the key, I can hear the fuel pump engage. So I towed my car home and set out to find the problem. I got out my Haynes manual (which is one frustratingly hard to follow book), and started studying the "Fuel System" section. My first (and cheapest thought) was that the fuel filter might be clogged and need replacing. So I replaced it and that didn't help. Then I thought that perhaps it could be the fuel distributor, so after I was talked into buying a replacement by a parts dealer, I installed it and that didn't change a thing. I did a quick diagnosis of most of the fuel systems components. I checked wheather they were all doing what they were supposed to do, I checked the Auxiliary Air Valve, the Warm Up Regulator, the Cold Start Vale, the Thermo-time Switch, and the Air Flow Sensor. The only thing I can even think it might be after all of the is the fuel pump, however, it seems to be working. There is pressure getting to the Cold Start Valve, but when I hot wire the fuel pump to run without the car running, and loosen the fuel lines from the fuel distributor, no fuel comes out, UNLESS, I lift the air flow sensor plate. I AM SO CONFUSED.
PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE I PUSH MY BELOVED CAR OFF A CLIFF.
Thank you,
Jason
