The MC is located on the firewall below and to the right of the brake booster. The clutch and brakes share the same reservoir. You'll see a small hose leading from the brake hydraulic reservoir to the clutch master cylinder.
The slave cylinder is located at the front of the engine (near the radiator). You can follow a hose from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder.
From what you describe, it sounds like the master cylinder is going out. You may be able to extend it's life by bleeding the system, but in the end you'll probably end up replacing the MC.
If you want to get lots of good info about the car, spring about $45 for the Bentley manual. Even if you don't do your own work on the car, it is still worth it.
