Stay Arm Bushing Replacement

What is the trick to removing the the arm bolt on the passenger side that is close to the gas tank? There is no access to the back side of this bolt that I can see. I ended up grinding the head, bending the support to allow the arm to come off, then I ground off the body of the bolt as close to the tank as possible. Then the nut fell past the tank. The bently book has a blank page in the suspension section where it should tell you how to remove this bolt. Drop gas tank first?
