Derek,
I know your problem very well. I've struggling with this one for several months now and I think I finally slayed it. Before I give you the answer I'd recommend that you'd check some of the obvious items such as:
a) make sure you have the right plugs and that they're gapped properly,
b) tighten all the hose clamps downstream of the turbo,
c) double check all the vacuum lines.
In my car I did all the above and much more and nothing seemed to help. Finally, I used Redline Fuel injector cleaner for two tanks and slowly my problems went away. It solved my hard starting problem when outside air temp was warm, made the car run smoother, idle better and overall more fun to drive. Previously, I'd tried Cheveron Techroline, BG44K but neither of those cleaners seemed helped. I'm going to start using once every month or so.
I think what's happening is you're getting poor atomization from the cold start valve thus flooding your engine. When the engine is warm the cold start valve isn't used so it starts fine.
Give it a try and let me know how it works.
The other recommendation I have is to make sure that the hose clamps downstream of the turbo are ABA/AWAB clamps, not the generic stainless steel kind you can buy at any hardware store. I've found that the generic clamps cut into the hoses and eventually loosen over time caused by the heating and cooling of the engine.
Todd
