The Bentley is available from several of the TSN sponsors or from Amazon or your local Saab dealer. It's the only one you need, although I must admit for heavy-duty things like rebuilding engines, the Haynes manual is less expensive and will do the job... Oddly, the Haynes does a great job covering engine & tranny rebuilds but is worthless for everything else, whereas the Bentley covers everything else but considers engine & tranny rebuilds beyond it's scope. Very weird.
I can't speak for the exact engine you're talking about, but rebuilding should not even be a concern. The bottom end of the 8v (rods, crank, pistons - everything) are damned near bullet proof. Unless it's specifically damaged, I wouldn't even worry about it. The timing gear should be looked into (chain, tensioner, guides) and it's worth having the head fully worked (valve guides, clearances, etc.). You'll probaby end up paying a machinist more than anything else... :) Of course, you could always use the opportunity to to convert the engine to a 16v or build a hot engine... :) I've always wondered what a 2.1l 8v engine would be like... Feel like a guinea pig?
Whatever path you take, good luck & have fun!
