Okay, summer's here and I finally have time to buckle down and work on my Saab! I have a few questions that I need all of your expertise and experience to help answer.
I've got a 1989 900S hatchback.
First, of primary concern is the driver's side door. Currently, when you open it, it does not have a stopper to catch the door from swinging all the way open or falling back on you. I have isolated the problem to a little pin which can be inserted into a specific loop off the door itself and which contacts a spring to hold the door open and prevent it from being swung open and damaging the hinges. HOWEVER, after I stole one of these pins from my parts car and tried to insert it, I realized that something is funky with my little spring because if I open the door TOO far, namely where the door would be held open normally, the pin pops off the edge of the spring contact and you can't close the door! I had to use a screwdriver to push the spring back in (not an easy task) and get someone to close the door for me. Upon inspection of the right hand door, I see that the springs are not the same--the driver's side door spring is angled (whereas the passenger side is not). Does anyone know what would cause this and/or how to fix it (or should I just go get another spring assembly)?
ALSO, my driver's side door doesn't always close right. If you slam it too hard, sometimes it will actually bounce off the car, not latching at all. Other times, it'll latch, but will be partially open. On the outside, you can't usually just push the door closed--you need to follow through. Inside, you need technique--otherwise, you'll sit there opening and closing the door three or four times before you get it right. This is the second Saab my family's had that does this, although mine does it worse. Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone know how to fix it?
Oh, and one cosmetic thing--does anyone what's the best way to remove and replace the Saab logo badges?
Thanks in advance for the help!
