92 900 Convertible vs. 88 9000T Performance

OK - so I'm in the fortunate position of owning a 92 900T convertible and an 88 9000T - well the convertible is my wife's car, but she lets me drive it sometimes :).
It seem to me that the 9000T has much better acceleration than the 900 - I've never timed them over 0-60 or raced them side-by-side, but I definitely get more of a kick in my back when I hit the gas in the 9000.
These cars should be fairly comparable right? They have the same engines I thought - and with the 900 being 4 years and 60k miles newer I would have thought I would have got a few more HP out of that. I understand they have to make convertibles heavier to give them the rigidity - but are they heavier than a 9000?
The one difference I notice is my boost gauge creeps into the red in the 9000 but just goes about 80% of the way up the yellow in the 900. Could there be something preventing me from getting maximum boost in the 900?
Of course you don't get that beautiful 900 growl in the 9000!
