When I replaced my rear pads about two months ago. I backed out the lock pin using the allen wrench to remove the old pads and left them unadjusted when the new ones are installed. Naturally I didn't have parking brake immediately after installation. Last week I replaced the rear disc (because I drove with the old pads a few weeks longer and the passenger side disc was scoured) and was surprised to find that I still need to back out the lock pin to remove the pads/caliper. That tells me the frequent pulling and release of the parking brake does advance the lock pin. naturally that is the way parking brake works.
