Congrats,
1) not a good idea you are trading radiative heat for conductive. It will bake the battery and help with RHS rust development.
2) it does to differing amounts on different cars. Make a new gasket for it out of some innertube or sheet rubber. Probably indicative of a vacuum leak see point 5
3) No idea
4) Normal, but not designed that way. Get a distributor o-ring and replace it. shield is to keep from baking the hall sensor, etc.
5) Vacuum leak. Hose goes from throttle body through Check Valve to elbow.
6) Mobil 1 gear lube or AMSoil gear lube - it already has gear lube in it.
before you really get into it, I suggest to: also order a set of rubber grommets (3 for manifold and 1 for PCV elbow), PCV elbow if its grommet is hard (you will break it when you take it out), Silicone hose, evaluate hooter health replace if necessary. Probably a Valve cover gasket if it is seeping, too. (minimize extra oil in the engine bay). good luck!
