Sorry to hear about the mess you have. I actually had the exact same thing happen to my car just a month ago, (91 SPG). Unfortunately I did not do the work to get things back in order but I can tell you what was done to fix the problem. We located the cause of the problem to be a hosed ECU computer. We had to replace the computer along with the Cat and we ended up putting additional heat shield down for additional measures. We also had to replace the carpet (which we got in good shape used). It sounds like your wiring problems are a little worse than mine as we were able to pull everything apart and re-splice things back together. A new wiring harness would probably be your best bet.
