Hey guys-

A story to share :) (no direct SAAB content)

Just wanted to see what these things were like for a trip up to
Toronto (we usually rent the Mazda 626's.. which only lack any
real power what-so-ever, but are solid cars..) So, here is my
story for the SAAB crew...

It was a '01 Mustang, with the 3.8L V6 and 4-speed automatic.
First thing I noticed was the stupid dash.. the design is amazing..
Please check it out. The interior quality is just miserable..
My girlfriend made the next interesting discovery that all the
side intakes and 'engine intake' were indeed.. fake. uhh huh...
Anyway, overall the car was just annoying. For a rear-drive
"sports-car" the thing was amazingly unbalanced. Around turns
it buffetted and you could literally feel the chassis twisting..
*groan*. This is no "sports car". It makes the SPG like a
Ferrari!!

Well, I guess being annoyed at the car took its toll.. because
on the way back to Ann Arbor the engine sounded really bad
(this car only has 12,000 miles.. what is that in SAAB miles?
like 120? :) Anyway.. it was vibrating.. and sounded like it
wasn't working on all six cylinders. Finally at the exit to
the town the engine just died. Luckily it re-started.. maybe
on three cylinders.. and I had to work the stupid automatic
transmission for all it was worth to coax it back to the rental
car shop. It was interesting doing left foot breaking.. and
flipping it into neutral so it wouldn't die. Well some 15 minutes
later it made it.. slight burning smell :>

Anyway, thought it was interesting, and really made me appreciate
my SAAB, and all the euro-cars I've owned, or my parents have owned.
These cars, be them Alfas, Fiats, Volkswagens, Audis.. had their
minor glitches, but for the most part even the late 70's, early
80's machines were decades ahead of this 2001 model car (which
retails at over 20 G's!!!!)

take care, drive safe :)
